Sun Valley Golf Course is an affordable 18 hole public golf course laid out on a beautiful 200-acre tract of Lincoln County in Eastern Missouri. Sun Valley features significant elevation changes and breathtaking views of both the course and surrounding countryside. One of Eastern Missouri's best-kept secrets, Sun Valley is challenging for the proficient golfer, yet fair and generous for the beginner. This "crown jewel" is truly a diamond in the rough!
Noted golf course designer Gary Kern laid out Sun Valley among the rolling hills and valleys of Lincoln County. Kerry Davis performed the majority of construction, and the front nine was opened in 1989, followed by the back nine in 1994. Sun Valley sports some of the most interesting holes in eastern Missouri, and is considered a stern but fair and solid test of golf by all players. Since 2005 Sun Valley has been under new ownership. We have worked tirelessly to improve course conditions and promote excitement about Sun Valley Golf Course. Course management includes: PGA Professional Kirk Porter, known for his work at St. Andrews Golf Course, and currently managing Bear Creek Golf Course in Wentzville. Greens Superintendent Jeff McBride also worked at Bear Creek for three years before being promoted to his current position in early 2005.
The course is in great shape as we head into the new season. Much needed winter precipitation and early spring rains have filled our lakes. When coupled with the significant improvements we have made over the last two years, this will allow us to maintain the course in excellent condition all year long. During the summer of 2008 we stripped in Zoysia on the Front 9 and plan on having 100% Zoysia on the Front 9 Fairways in a few short years. This Zoysia will tolerate the heat and dryer months much better and is fun to play golf on.
Probably the most noted improvement we have made in the last two years is the new Par 6. Sun Valley is now the only golf course in Missouri with a Par 6. Come out and give this 720-yard Beast a try! From the elevated tee shot across a few creeks… To a couple long uphill approach shots to an undulated green protected by a large bunker… The Beast will prove to be a test for even the longest hitter.
In the Pro-shop you will find a wide variety of golf merchandise from gloves, hats, clubs, balls, tees, to shoes and sunglasses. We also carry a nice selection of apparel by Ping, Ashworth, Callaway, Mizuno, Titleist, and FootJoy. Look for our Sun Valley logo items to validate your round, and our large assortment of "experienced" golf balls to help you find your way around the course.
Once you've stocked up on your must-haves for the course, make your way to our practice range and practice greens. Regular practice will do wonders for your golf game and even a quick warm-up before your round will make a difference. At Sun Valley Golf Course our Golf Professionals also offer lessons in chipping, putting and full swing.
The clubhouse provides a relaxed atmosphere to sit and unwind following your round of golf. The snack bar menu includes: burgers, jumbo hotdogs, brats and a variety of other food and beverage items, including the "coldest beer in Lincoln County."
If you haven't played Sun Valley lately you might want to round up your friends and get away for a new round. Why settle for the ok course down the street when this beauty is just a short drive away?
